The A2011 is a Class I road that branched off the A3 in Portsmouth in 1922 as the road to Clarence Pier. It became part of the A288 in the 1930s. In 1958 the B2011 road was upgraded to a Class I road. The number was kept and only the "B" was replaced by "A". This A2011 circumnavigated Maidstone north and was used by road traffic as a bypass of the A20 running through the city. In 1961 she lost this function, as the A20 (M) was opened parallel to her. This made the number "A2011" free again. Today the number is used for a connection from the M23 to the A23 in the north of Crawley .
