Al Ruscio

Al Ruscio (born June 2, 1924 in Salem , Massachusetts , † November 12, 2013 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actor and character actor .

Life

Ruscio served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II and began his career in the theater while attending college after the war . During the summer holidays he was on stage with Lucille Ball and Bert Lahr , and the following year with Martha Scott and Robert Alda . He played a small role in Henry Hathaway's war film 13 Rue Madeleine , and Richard Conte recommended Ruscio to study acting in New York City . He followed this recommendation and studied there at the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theater under Sanford Meisner . He then taught at Brooklyn College and performed in theaters across the United States . He also toured with Kim Stanley and Steve McQueen . In 1950 he also had an engagement on Broadway .

In 1958 he moved to Hollywood and immediately received his first television guest roles. He also joined the Board of Directors of the Screen Actors Guild . He interrupted his film and television career in the mid-1960s to found the drama school of the local Midwestern College in Iowa . He then taught at the University of Windsor in Canada and was Artistic Director of the Academy of Dramatic Art at Oakland University . With his return to Hollywood in the mid-1970s, his success on television continued, where he was able to book guest roles in successful series for several decades. He played recurring roles in the short-lived crime series Shannon , Everything Okay, Corky? and the General Hospital - Port Charles branch . In 1989 he played Josef Stalin in the miniseries Firestorm and Ashes .

On the big screen, Al Ruscio could be seen several times as a mafiosi , including Tony Genaro in the crime film Al Capone , Leo Cuneo in The Godfather III and Tony Paoli Sr. in Full Throttle to San Fernando . In Paul Verhoeven's Showgirls he represented Mr. Karlman. Other roles he had in Richard Marquand Thriller The knife and John Duigan biopic Romero .

In 1954 he married actress Kate Williamson , with whom he had four children. Just a few weeks after his death, his wife also passed away.
