Alter Kahn und Junge Liebe is a music film that was shot in 1973 against the backdrop of Meersburg , Lake Constance , the Rhine Falls and the Rhine as far as Amsterdam . Roy Black and Willy Millowitsch sing folk tunes in the film. Barbara Nielsen , Peter Millowitsch and Jutta Speidel play other leading roles . The film premiered on September 19, 1973.
This film is not identical to DEFA's 1956/57 film Alter Kahn und Junge Liebe with Götz George and Kurt Schmidtchen . Horst Naumann also played in this film version.

In Meersburg, auto mechanic Mark Tanner and his friend Ulli Specht equip a seaworthy sailing boat called Bella Marie to be transported across the Rhine to Amsterdam for a general manager. On the way to Meersburg, they pick up the blonde tour guide Petra Hauser on the roadside, who accompanies a bus trip from Meersburg to Amsterdam. A stray dog and the ship's daughter Elke Steubels also join the ship travelers. As a result, the ship transporters and the bus tour guide meet in Meersburg and in the Rhine ports. The boat trip leads past the castles that lie along the Rhine and allows a view of the Rhine Falls from Schaffhausen with strong water flow. The highlight of the trip is a wine festival at the winemaker Jupp König. After the intended singers canceled at short notice, Mark Tanner, little Anita and Jupp König take over the vocal performances as a matter of course.
There is more than just sympathy between Mark and Petra, but only after Petra has rejected her obtrusive admirer Rob, in order to be jealous of Elke on her part, do the two find each other while Elke teams up with Ulli. In Amsterdam, the ship's crew receives the message that the boat is to be returned to Lake Constance. For Mark and Petra this is a welcome opportunity to spend the return trip together.
The Lake Constance backdrop
The film shows the cityscape of Meersburg from 1973. You can see the market square with the Obertor and the historic Bären inn, the lower town with the ship harbor, the gondola harbor and the view up to the baroque ensemble of the former riding school and the seminary. Furthermore, the entire lower town is shown from the lake, the Überlinger See and the Birnau pilgrimage church , as well as the loading of the larger sailing boat onto the railway to bypass the Rhine Falls.
The plot and locations of the film are based strongly on those of the film Three Men in a Boat, shot twelve years earlier .
