Anton Neumayr (politician)

Anton Neumayr (* 1. June 1887 in Salzburg , Austria , † 18 June 1954 ibid) was mayor of the city Hallein and Salzburg, President of the Salzburg regional parliament and provincial governor -Stellvertreter.

He worked as a primary school teacher in the communities of Grödig and Seeham and as a secondary school teacher in the Tennengau district capital Hallein, of which he was also mayor from 1919 to 1934. At the same time he was also a member and temporarily President of the Salzburg State Parliament, to which he was re-elected in 1945. From 1945 to 1946 he was deputy governor and from 1946 to 1951 mayor of the provincial capital of Salzburg. During his term of office the construction of the vocational school as well as the construction of the Saalach power plant and the enlargement of the Mönchsberg water reservoir fell. In 1952 he was made an honorary citizen of Salzburg.

After his death in 1954, he was buried in a grave of honor in the Salzburg municipal cemetery. After his death, a square in the north of Salzburg's old town was named in his honor. The Anton-Neumayr-Platz is surrounded by the Griesgasse, the Museum Square, the Gstättengasse and the Münzgasse.

Anton Neumayr was the father of the internist of the same name (1920–2017).
