Palace of Justice

The Bavarian State Ministry of Justice is a ministry of the Free State of Bavaria based in Munich . It is responsible for judicial matters in the Free State. Around 18,000 employees work in his division, and around 200 employees work in the ministry itself. The office is at the Munich Palace of Justice at Prielmayerstraße 7 on Karlsplatz .

The current minister of state is Georg Eisenreich (CSU), senior civil servant Ministerialdirektor Frank Arloth.

history

The forerunner of the State Ministry of Justice in Bavaria was the Justice Department of the Electorate of Palatinate, formed between 1799 and 1801 under Johann Friedrich von Hertling. This central authority, which continued to exist after Bavaria was elevated to kingdom in 1806, was not responsible for the judiciary itself, but was responsible for its organization. Since 1817 at the latest, this central authority has been called the Ministry of Justice. Johannes Timm was the first Minister of Justice of the Free State of Bavaria, which was proclaimed in 1918. At the beginning of 1933 the Bavarian Ministry of Justice was subordinated to the Supreme Regional Court, 4 Higher Regional Courts ( Bamberg , Munich , Nuremberg , Zweibrücken ), 26 regional courts , 240 local courts , 11 penal institutions and 350 notaries' offices. After the National Socialists "seized power" , sovereignty over the judiciary was transferred to the Reich. On April 1, 1935, the Bavarian Ministry of Justice was dissolved. After the end of the Second World War, it was rebuilt with an Allied ordinance of October 5, 1945, Hans Ehard was its first (acting) minister. From 2008 to 2013 the ministry was also responsible for consumer protection. Before and since then, these matters are part of the Ministry of the Environment .
