Baringo County (until 2010 Baringo District ) is one of 47 administrative districts in Kenya and is located in the west of the country. Its capital is Kabarnet . According to the 2019 census, 666,763 people lived on a total area of ​​11,075.3 km².

In October 2000 there - in the Tugen Hills - a Kenyan-French team of scientists found Orrorin tugenensis (nickname Millennium Man ), who lived around six million years ago and thus possibly the oldest human progenitor .

Several of the Kenyan world-class runners come from the county, including Paul Tergat .

The county became known worldwide through the small village of Mukutani as the setting for the film Nowhere in Africa .
