Benito Archundia

Benito Armando Archundia Téllez (born March 21, 1966 in Tlalnepantla , Mexico ) is a former Mexican football referee who was also used internationally.

Archundia started his international referee career on January 1, 1993. On May 28, 1994 he whistled his first international match with the USA against Greece . At the 2006 World Cup , lawyer and economist Héctor Vergara and José Ramires were at their side. There Archundia led the encounters Brazil against Croatia , France against South Korea , the Czech Republic against Italy , the round of 16 between Switzerland and Ukraine and the semi-final between Germany and Italy. He is the first referee to oversee five games within a World Cup finals tournament. Horacio Elizondo (2006) and Ravshan Ermatov (2010) succeeded as the second and third referee .

Archundia was also in action at the 2010 World Cup .

With the game for third place, Archundia set the record for Joël Quiniou and Jorge Larrionda , who were the first referees to lead eight World Cup games. The 2014 record was surpassed by Ravshan Ermatov , who whistled his ninth game there.
