Bergen is one of the smallest districts of Bochum , in the north on the border with Herne . Due to the agricultural areas, local recreation areas, riding stables, the proximity to the nature reserve Tippelsberg-Berger Mühle and the "Zillertal" the district has an almost rural character.

The incorporation to Bochum took place on April 1, 1926 through the law on the new regulation of the communal borders in the industrial districts of Rhenish-Westphalia .

In the area of the Bergen Street 116 was in the time of National Socialism , the forced labor camp Bergen Street . The camp barracks are still standing today.

Sports

Bergen has four sports clubs, the DJK Hiltrop-Bergen, which produced Frank Heinemann in football as a Bundesliga player (VfL Bochum 1986–1996), the SC Union Bergen and the American football teams Bochum Cadets e. V., Bochum Miners e. V. and Bochum Rebels e. V.

In Bochum-Bergen there is also the Bochum riding association, the Schultenhof equestrian community and the General German Rottweiler Club (ADRK BG Bochum).
