history

The place is mentioned in 1400 as Broile . In 1816 Bröl had 165, 1871 132, 1961 210 and 1980 766 inhabitants. Until 1956 the place was divided in two halves, the border was the Walbach . The part to the right of the Walbach belonged to the Altenbödingen municipality , the left part to the Happerschoss municipality . This division was based on the original shared membership in the parishes of Happerschoss and Allner . With the dissolution of the municipalities belonging to the Lauthausen office and the reorganization of the Lauthausen municipality , both parts belonged to Lauthausen. Since 1969 Bröl has been part of Hennef (Sieg)

Industry

To the north of Bröl, in the Katharinental, there is the Eckes-Granini plant , which covers an area of ​​141,000 m² and produces 210 million liters of the well-known Granini and Hohes C juices a year. Up to 48,000 PET bottles can be filled here every hour. The concentrate delivered from South America by tanker is transported from the interim storage facility in Ghent to Bröl by tanker truck. There it is diluted back in 60,000 liter tanks, pasteurized , filled and stored for a week until quality control. The apples for the apple juice are sourced from large companies in Europe; local suppliers can deliver directly one day in autumn. Today the plant employs 280 people in 4-shift operation, 22 of whom are apprentices. The factory was founded by the Kleinhans & Eckertz company in 1959, which operated an apple juice press here. In 1982 it was taken over by Eckes AG .

The school in Bröl named after Richard Schirrmann

Today's Richard Schirrmann School in Bröl got its name and significance from Marie Gierling, the wife of a former school director, who gave Richard Schirrmann accommodation on a hike with his school class. That night Schirrmann came up with the idea of setting up a network of youth hostels .
