Arto Kalervo Bryggare (born May 26, 1958 in Kouvola ) is a former Finnish athlete and Olympian.

General

Arto Bryggare was one of the best 110-meter hurdlers in Europe for a decade . He was Finnish champion on his special track from 1977 to 1987 and then again in 1992. His greatest success was the silver medal in 1983 in 13.46 s at the home world championships in Helsinki . From 1995 to 1999 and 2003 to 2007 Arto Bryggare was a member of the Finnish Parliament for the Social Democratic Party of Finland . In January 2019, Bryggare married the former German athlete Heike Drechsler , with whom he has been in a relationship since 2016.

Arto Bryggare won three medals at European Open Air Championships:

  • 1978 : 3rd place in 13.56 s
  • 1982 : 3rd place in 13.60 s
  • 1986 : 2nd place in 13.42 s

Success in the hall

Arto Bryggare won five medals at the European Indoor Championships in the 60-meter hurdles and in 1981 in the 50-meter hurdles:

  • 1977 3rd place in 7.79 s
  • 1979 2nd place in 7.67 s
  • 1981 1st place in 6.47 s
  • 1983 2nd place in 7.60 s
  • 1987 1st place in 7.59 s

In 1987 he finished 5th in 7.68 s at the World Indoor Championships.
