history

Overview of the plant

Archaeological finds show that the place was used at an early age; possibly some of the ramparts come from the Iron Age . The ramparts enclosed an area of 620 m².

In the 8th and 9th centuries, the actual castle construction began with a square building. By the 11th century, the complex was expanded with circular walls , a residential tower , a triangular extension and a residential building with a pentagonal tower. The complex was destroyed by fire at the end of the 11th to the beginning of the 12th century. The destruction of the complex claimed by Wigand Gerstenberg in 1248 by the troops of Landgravine Sophie von Brabant is probably incorrect, as the excavation findings show no use after the time around 1100.
