Career
Career as a player
Cory Laylin played during his time at the High School for the team of St. Cloud Apollo High School . In the 1988 NHL Entry Draft , the Pittsburgh Penguins selected him in the eleventh round in 214th position. He then played for the University of Minnesota team . In his first year he reached the final of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Championship with the Golden Gophers . When the score was 3: 3 in the overtime against Harvard University , the future NHL player Randy Skarda hit the post, in the subsequent counterattack Harvard scored the winning goal to 4: 3 and won the championship. Laylin stayed in Saint Paul for three more years .
In the 1992/93 season he played for the Flint Bulldogs in the Colonial Hocke League . Here he came to seven games and sat out the following year completely. In 1994 the American signed with EK Zell am See in the Austrian ice hockey league . In the next season he was active in Austria , Slovenia and Switzerland . Further stations were HK Sportina Bled in the Alpine League and three clubs from the Italian A1 series . For the 1999/2000 season Laylin signed with Iserlohner EC , with which he reached the play-offs of the 2nd Bundesliga . The move to SC Bietigheim-Bissingen followed . After 25 games, the left shooter returned to North America and went on the ice for the San Diego Gulls in the West Coast Hockey League .
After winning the Taylor Cup, he moved back to Iserlohn , whose team now played in the German Ice Hockey League . With the Iserlohn Roosters he missed the play-offs, but was voted top scorer of the team and "Player of the Year". Since the season of the WCHL was still running, Laylin completed 14 games for the San Diego Gulls. In 2002 he joined the Frankfurt Lions , with whom he lost six games to the Schwenninger ERC Wild Wings in the play-downs . In the 2003/04 season, the Americans played for HC Sierre in the National League B . After a year he came back to Germany and played for Wölfe Freiburg in the 2nd Bundesliga . With the ninth place it was enough for his team for the play-downs, in which the relegation succeeded.
In 2005 Laylin moved to Denmark to the Frederikshavn White Hawks . After his first season he extended his contract for the first time in his professional career and reached the play-offs with his team. Laylin's last active season began in 2008 with the Bloomington Prairie Thunder in the International Hockey League . After 32 games he moved to EV Landsberg in the 2nd Bundesliga. The Landsbergers, who let go of some top performers due to financial problems during the season, reached last place after the regular season and thus had to go to the play-downs. There, Laylin's team was defeated by EV Ravensburg and had to be relegated to the league . The American then ended his career.
Career as a coach
Laylin, who holds the highest US coaching license, was the assistant coach of the ice hockey team at Hamline University from 2008 to 2010 before signing a contract as assistant coach with the Kassel Huskies for the 2010/11 season . However, the club was dissolved before the start of the season. Instead, Laylin acted as the head coach of the Buffalo Bisons , a high school ice hockey team from Minnesota , during the 2010-11 season . For the following season he signed in the same position of SV Kaltern from the Italian A2 series .
