The Bloomington Prairie Thunders were an American ice hockey franchise based in Bloomington , Illinois . They played between 2006 and 2011 in the United or International Hockey League and Central Hockey League .
history
The Bloomington Prairiethunder were in 2006 as a franchise of the United Hockey League was founded. The settlement of the team was made possible by the construction of the US Cellular Coliseum, which cost 37 million US dollars . Neither in their only UHL season, nor in the following three years after it was renamed the International Hockey League following the 2006/07 season based on the league of the same name , which existed from 1945 to 2001, the Prairie Thunders were able to reach the playoffs and showed a mixed balance.
After Jarrod Skalde had led the team through the 2008/09 and 2009/10 seasons, Jason Christie , who previously worked as assistant coach of the Chicago Wolves , took over the position of head coach in August 2010 after his departure .
In the 2010/11 season, the Bloomington Prairie Thunders took part in the Central Hockey League . At the end of the season, the team stopped playing. The void the Prairie Thunders left in the city was subsequently filled by the Bloomington Blaze .
