Coupe de France féminine 2017/18

The competition for the Coupe de France féminine in the 2017/18 season was the 17th edition of the French football cup for women's teams . Participation is only compulsory for women in the first and second leagues.

Defending champion Olympique Lyon , who had won this competition for the previous six years in a row, managed to win each of his games in double digits up to the quarter-finals with a total of 52-0 goals, albeit always against lower-class opponents. In the final, a remake of the previous year's final, however, OL was defeated by Paris Saint-Germain FC . The capital city women won their second national cup title after 2010 .

The competition is held according to the classic cup mode; This means in particular that the respective fixtures are drawn without seeding lists or a performance-based or from the round of 16 without regional pre-sorting of the clubs from all clubs still in competition and only one game is played at the end of which a winner has to be determined (and be it through a penalty shoot-out - extension in the event of a tie after 90 minutes is not provided), which then qualifies for the next round, while the loser is eliminated. Home rights are also determined by lot for each match - with the exception of the final, which takes place in a neutral place at different locations every year - but with the restriction that clubs that have to compete against an eleven that are at least two league levels higher automatically have home rights to get.

After completion of the qualification rounds organized by the regional subdivisions of the regional association FFF , the twelve top division clubs also intervene in the thirty-second finals, the so-called second national round (Deuxième tour fédéral) . With Étoile Filante Bastia , for the first time in cup history, a Corsican woman reached the previous first national round, but was eliminated. The peculiarity about it: Due to the very small number of female soccer players there, only teams of 8 have played for the championship so far, so that, unusually, ÉFB had to provide a full team. In contrast, five fourth and even a fifth division with AS Bruyères managed to reach the thirty-second finals; Of these six teams, only the women of Villeneuve-d'Ascq FF survived this round. Instead, the women of third division Le Havre AC , whose first eleven are mostly English women , moved into the focus of media interest as the tournament progressed. Beginning with the first national round, "Le HAC" threw three second division partners out of the race: first VGA Saint-Maur 1-0, then FC Rouen (3-1) and FF Issy (5-0). In the quarter-finals, ASJ Soyaux, a first division club, Le Havres Cup course, whose women then made up for it with promotion to the second division.

Special occurrences

PSG's head coach Patrice Lair , who will be leaving the club for the new season, had called in sick for this encounter, so his assistant had to replace him at this final.

After almost 60 minutes of play, the game had to be interrupted due to a violent thunderstorm. According to the wording of the competition regulations, such an interruption may not last longer than 45 minutes; otherwise the game must be completely restarted within 48 hours. The referee interpreted this rule very generously with the support of the present FFF President Noël Le Graët and whistled the match again after a good hour.

The almost 12,500 spectators, many of whom left the stadium during the interruption, represented a new record for a French women's cup final.
