Andreea Mitu (born September 22, 1991 in Bucharest ) is a Romanian tennis player .

Career

Mitu, who prefers the clay court as a tennis court, mostly competes in ITF tournaments.

So far she has won 19 singles and 19 doubles titles on the ITF Women's World Tennis Tour , as well as 4 doubles titles on the WTA Tour. She achieved her greatest successes with the tournament victories in Mamaia in September 2011 and in Sofia in September 2012.

She made her debut at a Grand Slam tournament at Wimbledon in 2014 . She celebrated her best performance in such a tournament in 2015 at the French Open , when she made it to the round of 16 with wins over Karolína Plíšková and Francesca Schiavone .

In April 2015 she played against Canada for the first time for Romania in the Fed Cup . She won her singles against Eugenie Bouchard in three sets and then lost the double in the shortened decisive set.

In 2016 Mitu won two WTA tournaments in doubles. In Istanbul she won with the Turkish İpek Soylu and in Båstad with the Pole Alicja Rosolska . Then Mitu took part in the Olympic Games in Rio, where she was eliminated in the first round in singles and reached the second round in doubles with Raluca Olaru .

In 2017, Mitu took a break from competition because she became pregnant. In January 2018, she became the mother of a boy.
