Promotion / relegation : In the women's upper league qualification tournament, including the last two places in the upper league, only six instead of eight teams took part. The league participants could not prevail against the competition from the league. Empor Grabow was the winner of Season I and SG Bademeusel was the winner of Season V. The Tractor Seebergen team, which was second behind the BSG Leipzig-Eutritzsch, took part in Season VI. Rotation Berlin III as the winner of Season II did not start. The first place in league season III, the SG Heidenau, was not willing to be promoted and the second-placed and last year's league relegated Pentacon Dresden was not eligible for promotion due to a lack of youth work, so that the third-placed, the Dresden University Sports Association, took part without a chance.

The first two teams played against the others; the results of the seasons were taken:
Relegation : The teams in the last two places relegated to the GDR league.
Promotion : In the GDR league, the teams Lok "Erich Steinfurth" Berlin II (season I), progress Greiz-Gommla (season II) and SG Görlitz (season III) won their seasons. This made it again a "second set" in the highest league, the Görlitz community achieved immediate promotion and progress Greiz-Gommla even managed to march through from the district league to the GDR upper league.
Final round
Immediately after the series of league games, the best placed teams in the main round met on the Turbine sports field in Halle on July 6, 1985.
