The GDR field fistball championships in 1987/88 were the 39th edition of the field fistball championships in the GDR in the 1987/88 season since 1949 .
The season started in autumn 1987 with the first matchday in Berlin and St. Egidien. The second game day was played in Hirschfelde and Barby. The two final tournaments of the four top division winners each of the women and men took place on July 9, 1988 in Barby / Elbe .
The mode of the final round was changed in such a way that the single round did not result in the final placements, but only further placement games of the teams in 1st and 2nd place in the final and the teams in 3rd and 4th place in the small final decided on the medals.
Promotion / relegation : For the promotion round, the last two of the league and the winners of the league relays were eligible to play, provided they were eligible for promotion.
But there was only one tournament of the three teams Einheit Steremat Berlin (winner of season II), Empor Barby (second of season IV) instead of the winner BSG Leipzig-Eutritzsch, who did not have the section offspring required for promotion, and the SG Görlitz, who played for the same reason instead of SG Heidenau as a representative of Season III. The SG Bademeusel (Winner Season V) and the upper division participants Empor Grabow and Lok Schwerin II canceled. Motor Rathenow (winner of season I) also did not take part.

Promotion / relegation : The teams in the last three places were relegated directly to the league. The winners of the three league seasons, Lokomotive Elsterwerda, Progress Glauchau II and Chemie Weißwasser had qualified for promotion to the league. Progress Glauchau did not meet the requirements for youth work, so that instead of the second Glauchau team, Motor Ost, Zella-Mehlis rose to second place in Season II.
