Die Bread Pilots - Two Drakes Deliver From (Original Title: Breadwinners ) is an American animated series by Nickelodeon Animation Studios from 2014. The series is about two ducks who deliver bread on a pond-covered planet called Teichea.
action
The two ducks SwaySway and Buhdeuce fly around the water-covered planet Teichea in their rocket-powered van and deliver bread to their customers. To do this, however, this bread must first be extracted from the bread mines. The tall SwaySway is the head of the duo and driver of the van; the little Buhdeuce is his assistant. Together they get into all sorts of problems, which they often solve by transforming them into a suitable figure.
characters
SwaySway is a tall skinny human-like duck and comes from a family of bread pilots. He is proud to continue this tradition. Even if his judgment often leaves something to be desired, he considers himself the better driver of the duo. He's got a driver's license, but he races into all sorts of things with the rocket truck. His skills are party punch and shoe attack. His quotes are: Oh, glue and lick my rump.
Buhdeuce is a little round human-like duck, SwaySways co-pilot and his best buddy. He is absent-minded and careless and believes that he is bad at delivering bread. That's why he's a little jealous of SwaySway. Buhdeuce's skills are pop-kick , six-pack fist and ninja roll . His quotes are: Oh, duckweed, yep, yep! and no, sir, no dubidu.
The bread maker was considered a legend until one day SwaySway and Buhdeuce met him in the bread mines. He gave them a magic toaster to summon him with. When disappearing, he always leaves loaves of bread in his body shape.
Lava mole is a large red mole and lives underground in the bread mines. He wanted the magic toaster. He always fights against the bread maker, but he always fails.
T-Midi is an owl and lives in a house surrounded by trees. He is the bread pilots' best customer. He collects loaves and takes them to a secret bread store. He also has a painting of his mother and meets the bread maker in the later episodes.
Ketta is a goose mechanic and always wears roller skates because her feet really stink. She always helps SwaySway and Buhdeuce when they have problems. She often says "Honk", which is the English chatter of a goose.
Mr. Pumpers is a strong manager of the Pumpers floating restaurant . He always wants to get rich. His favorite quote is “Boom-Lecker!”.
Ram-Bam-Boo is a police officer. She always fines SwaySway and Buhdeuce for always committing traffic violations. In addition, she once received the award as the strictest policewoman in Teichea.
Jenny Quackles is a duck. SwaySway is in love with her, but she doesn't talk to him. She likes a leader of the biker ducks. She is the daughter of Mrs. Quackles.
Mrs. Quackles is the mother of Jenny Quackles. She doesn't like SwaySway because she thinks SwaySway offended her.
Jelly is SwaySways and Buhdeuce's pet frog. She can catch anything with her tongue. Jelly is often addressed as a good girl by SwaySway and Buhdeuce. She is also an excellent drummer.
Mrs. Furfle is an old firefly. You and T-Midi were together. Your orders are always late. She cannot pronounce Buhdeuce's name. In the later episodes she cannot pronounce Sway Sway's name either.
The dishwasher is a talking dishwasher. He ran away when he saw the dirty mountain of dishes. He can also be seen in the Teichea triangle.
Oonski the big one is a Viking beaver . He eats, knocks and steals. In the episode Crazy About Vanessa , he wanted to steal a rocket truck. In the episode The Crazy Grasping Arm Game , he keeps Buhdeuce as a toy. In the episode Oonski, the Grateful , he was almost eaten by a cloud monster, but was saved by SwaySway and Buhdeuce. He thanked them and served SwaySway and Buhdeuce. He always speaks of himself in the third person and always sings rock music. He doesn't like it at all if you interrupt his victory dance.
Poltergans is a ghost gander that lived in Teichea triangle. He can annoy anyone when he says "Honk Honk". When the bread pilots are back at the Teichea triangle, SwaySway throws poltergans away. He can make things float, but when he lets go it breaks.
The pizza pilots Zoona and Roni are the rivals of SwaySway and Buhdeuce. You made a bet with the bread pilots as to who would deliver to the most customers. The pizza pilots have won and get everything from the bread pilots. When the pizza pilots throw pizza into the pond, they are attacked by the monsters. In the episode The Prince of the Pizza Pilots , they are sent off by the Pizza Prince to deliver more pizza, otherwise he would eat them.
The breadator is a creature who does mischief in the bread mines. He challenged SwaySway and Buhdeuce to play basketball. In the end he lost to the bread pilots.
production
The series was conceived by Steve Borst and Gary DiRaffaele . The two first met in 2011 while working on the animated series Mad for Warner Brothers. Since they got along well, they developed the idea of ducks delivering bread over the next few months - initially for a short film. Borst wrote the story for this and DiRaffaele realized the film within two months. The short film was shown at a small film festival in New York and uploaded to Youtube . The video was already a great success there. Eventually, DiRaffaele was contacted by Nickelodeon about the film to make a series of it.
The division of labor between the two executive producers remained and they worked closely with the Nickelodeon Animation Studios , in which the series was produced. The short film and series were produced as 2D animation using digital tools. The film was created as Flash Video , so DiRaffaele saw the limitations as a challenge and inspiration. Computer games from the early 1990s were another inspiration for the design. The design is also deliberately designed to be extra crazy, weird and funny. The content of the series, especially encounters with duck gangs in the city, is influenced by DiRaffaele's childhood in an Italian-American family in New York, where bread was the staple food.
Most of the animation work took place at the Titmouse Studios in Vancouver. Casey Leonard, Dave Stone, Chris Martin, Ken McIntyre, Gary Doodles and Brian Morante were directors. The music is by Tommy Sica and Erik Petraitis was responsible for the editing. Jonathan Renoni was the artistic director.

reception
According to the Los Angeles Times , the series clearly recognizes its target audience of 6-11 year old boys. The main topics are simple everyday problems that children of this age have. And the protagonists also behave accordingly to this age group. Bread Pilots does not offer cynical or ironic characters like in the programs of Fox or Cartoon Network . Robert Lloyd reminds the series of Basil Woon , Garbage Pail Kids and Total Television , although this may not be intended by the creators. The influences of the early video games have been cleverly implemented. In terms of content, the series mainly consists of fast action, bad puns, fecal humor, set pieces from old hip-hop; it is loud and often disgusting, but basically also awesome. At least it is not harmful to children either. In Animation Magazine it is emphasized that in addition to “cool retro designs and misfortunes with the rocket delivery van”, the series also offers a lot of music to support the constant action and dance scenes.
Media Life's Tom Conroy wished Nickelodeon had spared its audience with this show. The stories and characters are unoriginal, the music seems to be repetitive and annoying, and the whole series concept gives the impression that it has just been written down quickly. The series is too loud and violent for younger children, too stupid for older children.
