Dolné Zelenice (German Unterzelenitz , Hungarian Alsózélle ) is a municipality in the west of Slovakia with 590 inhabitants (December 31, 2019), which for Okres Hlohovec of, part kraj Trnavský heard.

geography

The community is located in the Danube hill country , between the Waag to the east and the Dudváh to the west of the village. The center of the village is at an altitude of 135  m nm and is ten kilometers from Hlohovec and 19 kilometers from Trnava .

Neighboring municipalities are Horné Zelenice in the north, Dvorníky in the east, Siladice in the south and Hlohovec ( Šulekovo district ) in the west and north-west.

history

The place was first mentioned in writing in 1244 as Zela and stood in front of a ford on a trade route, opposite the old Szolgagyőr Castle on the other side of the Waag. Due to frequent floods and the relocation of the trade route further north, two new towns arose further away from the Waag, the southern Dolné Zelenice and the northern Horné Zelenice.

In 1720 Georg Erdődy became the landowner, but the family often had financial difficulties, so they sold the place to the Szunyogh family , who stayed in the village until 1945.

In 1813 there was a flood that destroyed a large part of the village.

Until 1918, the place in Neutra County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

From 1980 to 1990 Dolné Zelenice was part of the unitary municipality Zelenice.

population

According to the 2011 census, there were 561 residents in Dolné Zelenice, 533 of whom were Slovaks, three Czechs and one each Pole and Roma. One resident indicated a different ethnic group and 22 residents gave no information about the ethnic group. 415 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, 25 residents to the Evangelical Church AB, four residents to the Evangelical Methodist Church, two residents to the Congregational Church and one resident to the Orthodox Church; three residents professed a different denomination. 52 inhabitants were without a denomination and the denomination was not determined for 59 inhabitants.
