Červeník (until 1948 Slovak "Verešvár"; Hungarian Vágvörösvár - until 1907 Vörösvár ) is a municipality in the west of Slovakia , with a population of 1,709 (as of December 31, 2019), which for Okres Hlohovec of, part Trnavský kraj belongs.
geography
The municipality is located in the Danube Hills ( Podunajská pahorkatina ), part of the Slovakian Danube lowlands on the right bank of the Waag , here additionally separated by the Drahovský kanál canal . The municipality connects seamlessly to the southern town of Leopoldov and is five kilometers from Hlohovec and 15 kilometers from Piešťany .
Červeník is the only place in the municipality.
history
The place was mentioned for the first time in 1113 as bin in the Zobor documents . This name appears with deviations up to the end of the 13th century; In 1317 the name Verusvar appears, which can be translated as "Rotenburg". The settlement belonged to different noble families. The original location was on the square of today's city Leopoldov, but in 1665 the Hungarian royal chamber bought part of the municipality from the then owner Adam Forgách in order to build the fortress Leopoldov there, which was supposed to keep the expansion of the Ottoman Empire. After that, today's place was built north of the fortress, whose inhabitants were known as vegetable gardeners. In 1948 the place name was replaced by a Slavic variant of the name for reasons of national politics.

Červeník is located on the main road 61 and can be reached via the D1 motorway , junction Červeník (exits only). The closest train station is in Leopoldov on the Bratislava – Žilina railway line .
