Horné Zelenice (German Oberzelenitz , Hungarian Felsőzélle ) is a municipality in the west of Slovakia with 704 inhabitants (December 31, 2019), which for Okres Hlohovec of, part kraj Trnavský heard.

The community is located in the Danube hill country , between the Waag to the east and the Dudváh to the west of the village. The center of the village lies at an altitude of 138  m nm and is eight kilometers from Hlohovec .

Neighboring communities are Hlohovec (including the Šulekovo district ) in the west and north, Bojničky in the east, Dvorníky in the southeast and Dolné Zelenice in the south.

history

The place was mentioned in writing as Zela in 1244, at that time together with Dolné Zelenice . It was owned by the Hont-Pázmány dynasty, after 1400 part of the estate of Freistadl (today Hlohovec), then owned by various noble families, including Sipeky , Rudnay , Zay , Ocskay and Brunswick . In 1828 there were 83 houses and 576 inhabitants.

Until 1918, the place in Neutra County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

From 1980 to 1990 Horné Zelenice was part of the unified municipality Zelenice.

According to the 2011 census, there were 673 inhabitants in Horné Zelenice, of which 656 were Slovaks, three Czechs and one each Magyar, Roma, Russian and Ukrainian. 10 residents gave no information on ethnicity. 309 residents supported the Roman Catholic Church, 269 residents the Evangelical Church AB, two residents the Greek Catholic Church and one resident each for the Baha'i, the Orthodox Church and the Czechoslovak Hussite Church; two residents professed a different denomination. 45 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 43 residents was not determined.

  • Roman Catholic Martinskirche from the middle of the 13th century, converted into a three-aisled church in 1883
