Dowiaty ( German  Dowiaten ) is a place in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship . He belongs to the rural community Budry (Buddern) in the powiat Węgorzewski ( Angerburg district ).

Geographical location

Dowiaten is located in the northeast of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship , eight kilometers northeast of the district town of Węgorzewo (Angerburg) .

history

The village, called Dauiaten before 1785, Dowjathen after 1785 and Dowiaten until 1945 , was founded around 1539 and consisted of several large and small farms. With the district Keilshof it came in 1874 to the newly established district of Wenzken ( Polish: Więcki ), which until 1945 belonged to the district of Angerburg in the administrative district of Gumbinnen in the Prussian province of East Prussia .

The total number of inhabitants in 1910 was 215, rose to 233 by 1925 and amounted to 201 in 1933 and 206 in 1939.

In 1945 Dowiaten came in consequence of the war with the entire southern East Prussia to Poland and received the Polish name form Dowiaty . Today the place is incorporated into the Schulzenamt ( Polish Sołectwo ) Budry ( German  Buddern ) and represents a place in the network of the rural community Budry in the powiat Węgorzewski , until 1998 part of the Suwałki Voivodeship , since then part of the Warmia-Masurian Voivodeship .

Religions

Until 1945, the village of Dowiaten was on the one hand in the Evangelical Church of Buddern in the church province of East Prussia of the Evangelical Church of the Old Prussian Union , and on the other hand in the Catholic Church of the Good Shepherd Angerburg in the Diocese of Warmia .

Today Dowiaty is part of the Catholic parish of the Trinity Church of Budry in the Diocese of Ełk (Lyck) of the Roman Catholic Church in Poland and the Protestant parish in Węgorzewo (Angerburg) , a subsidiary of the parish in Giżycko (Lötzen) in the Diocese of Masuria of the Evangelical Augsburg Church in Poland .

Dowiaty is located on a side road that - parallel to the provincial road DW 650 - Budry (Buddern) and Wiecki (Wenzken) together. Until 1945 there was a rail connection via the station in Angerburg ( Polish : Węgorzewo ), which is no longer connected to the rail network today.
