Rob Druppers (born April 29, 1962 in Utrecht ) is a former Dutch athlete who was one of the strongest 800-meter runners in the world in the mid-1980s .

career

On his special track he won the silver medal at the first World Athletics Championships in Helsinki in 1: 44.20 minutes in 1983 . Four years later he won the title at the European Indoor Championships.

His best time was on August 25, 1985 at the ASV sports festival in Cologne . His time of 1: 43.56 minutes was the Dutch record over 800 m until 2006. On February 20, 1988, Druppers ran a new indoor world record over 1000 m in The Hague in 2: 16.62 minutes. This time is still the Dutch record in the hall.

Rob Druppers ran eleven times under 1:45 minutes and once under 1:44 minutes during his 800 m career.

In 1983 Druppers was voted Sportsman of the Year in his home country . The Rob Druppers Meeting , named after him, has been taking place in Overvecht since 1996 .

He started for Hellas Utrecht during his career . Druppers currently works as a running and conditioning coach at FC Utrecht .
