Dubové (Turčianske Teplice)

Dubové (until 1927 in Slovak "Dubovo"; German Daun , Hungarian Turóctölgyes - until 1907 Dubovó ) is a municipality in the north-center of Slovakia with 705 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It is located in the Okres Turčianske Teplice , part of the Žilinský kraj .

Center of Dubové

The community is located in the southern part of the torrent basin on a corridor terrace of the Turiec , not far from the north-eastern slope of the Žiar Mountains . The almost 28.3 km² large municipal area is predominantly hilly, about half of it deforested and covered by brown forest floors. The center of the village lies at an altitude of 478 m nm and is eight kilometers from Turčianske Teplice .

The municipality borders the following municipalities: Veľký Čepčín in the north, Turčianske Teplice (plus the Dolná Štubňa district ) in the east, Sklené in the south, Chrenovec-Brusno , Lipník and Malá Čausa in the southwest, Budiš in the west and Kaľamenová in the northwest.

The place was first mentioned in writing in 1262 as Doboa and is named after the surrounding oak forests. Dubové was on a trade route from Oberneutra, so it was probably the location of a toll station. The village belonged to the lower nobility, up to the 15th century the lords of Pravno, after the 16th century to the families like Nyáry , Révay and others, nevertheless Dubové was always a village exclusively inhabited by farmers. In 1715 there were 33 households and in 1828 79 houses and 547 inhabitants who were employed in forestry, pottery, cattle breeding and as oil pressers.

The place in Turz County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. In 1923, 86 houses were destroyed in a fire.

According to the 2011 census, 707 people lived in Dubové, 674 of them Slovaks and one Czech. 32 residents did not provide any information. 412 residents supported the Evangelical Church AB, 156 residents the Roman Catholic Church, nine residents the Evangelical Methodist Church, five residents the Greek Catholic Church and one resident each for the Orthodox Church and Reformed Church. 67 inhabitants were without a denomination and the denomination of 56 inhabitants was not determined.
