Dunajek ( German  Duneyken, Forst , 1938–1945 Duneiken, Forst ) is a small settlement in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship , part of the rural community Kowale Oleckie (Kowahlen , 1938–1945 Reimannswalde) in the powiat Olecki ( Oletzko district , 1933–1945 district Treuburg ).

history

Dunajek is a small forest settlement ("osada leśna") on the northeastern edge of the Borkener Forest (also: Borker Heide, Polish Puszcza Borecka ) in the northeast of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship . It is located on a side street that connects Grabowo (Grabowen , 1938–1945 Arnswald) on the voivodship road DW 650 (former German Reichsstraße 136 ) with Czerwony Dwór (Rothebude) and is via the same name - but to the city and rural community Gołdap (Goldap) belonging - Place Dunajek (Groß Duneyken , 1928–1938 Duneyken , 1938–1945 Duneiken) accessible.

Until 1945 the forestry department Duneyken / Duneiken was part of the rural community of Groß Duneyken (or Duneyken / Duneiken ). This was incorporated into the district of Altenbude ( Polish: Siedlisko ) and belonged to the district of Goldap in the administrative district of Gumbinnen in the Prussian province of East Prussia .

Due to the provisions of the Versailles Treaty , the population in the Allenstein voting area , to which Duneyken belonged, voted on July 11, 1920 on whether they would continue to belong to East Prussia (and thus Germany) or join Poland. In Duneyken, 308 residents voted to remain with East Prussia, while Poland did not vote.

As a result of the war, the municipality of Duneiken and the district of Duneiken, Forst, became part of Poland in 1945 , with the forestry department being assigned to the Powiat Olecki ( Oletzko district , Treuburg district 1933–1945 ). Today, as a small settlement, the place is part of the rural community of Kowale Oleckie within the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship . The small village belongs to the Schulzenamt ( Polish Sołectwo ) Czerwony Dwór .

Religions

In terms of church, Duneyken was tied to the Protestant parish of Grabowen and the Catholic parish in Goldap until 1945 . Today it belongs to the Catholic parish in Grabowo ( Diocese of Ełk ) and to the Evangelical Church of Suwałki - Gołdap ( Diocese of Mazury ).
