Eau Claire is a city (with the status of City ) and the administrative center of Eau Claire County in the US -amerikanischen State Wisconsin . A small portion of the metropolitan area extends into Chippewa County . At the 2010 census , Eau Claire had 65,883 residents.

Eau Claire is located in northwestern Wisconsin at the confluence of the Eau Claire River in the Chippewa River , a left tributary of the Mississippi .

The Interstate 94 and the four-lane US Highway 53 form the southern and eastern ring road of Eau Claire. The US Highway 12 into east-west direction through the south of the city. Wisconsin State Highways 37 , 93 and 312 also meet in the city . All other roads are subordinate country roads, some unpaved roads and inner-city connecting roads.
Along the Chippewa River, the Chippewa River State Trail is a rail trail for hikers and cyclists. In winter, the trail can also be used on snowmobiles and skis.
