Edward Robinson (politician)

Edward Robinson (born November 25, 1796 in Cushing , Knox County , Maine , † February 19, 1857 in Thomaston , Maine) was an American politician . Between 1838 and 1839 he represented the state of Maine in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Edward Robinson did not attend school and acquired the necessary knowledge himself. He became a seaman and then worked in trade in Thomaston. Politically, he joined the Whig Party in the 1830s . He served in the Maine Senate in 1836 and 1837 . After Congressman Jonathan Cilley was killed in a duel, Robinson was elected as his successor to the House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the Maine's third electoral by- election. There he took up his new mandate on April 28, 1838. By March 3, 1839, he ended the legislature of his predecessor.

After his time in Congress , Robinson returned to trading. He was also involved in banking and shipbuilding. He ran unsuccessfully for governor of Maine in 1842, 1843, and 1844 . Edward Robinson died on February 19, 1857 in Thomaston and was buried there.
