history

The place was first mentioned in 1401 as "Neschendorf" (to Eschendorf), in 1409 as "Escha" and in 1421 as "Eschen". The place name is derived from the ash trees that were probably in the area when it was founded.

With the community edict (early 19th century), the rural community Eschen was formed, to which the places Lahm and Windhof belonged. It was under the administration and jurisdiction of the Bayreuth Regional Court and had an area of 4,920 km². On May 1, 1978, it was incorporated into the new municipality of Eckersdorf as part of the regional reform in Bavaria .
