Eukelade (also Jupiter XLVII) is one of the smaller moons of the planet Jupiter .

discovery

S / 2003 J 1 was discovered by astronomers at the University of Hawaii on February 5, 2003 . On March 30, 2005, the moon was officially named Eukelade (after Eukelade , a daughter of Zeus ) by the International Astronomical Union (IAU).

Orbit data

Eukelade orbits Jupiter at a mean distance of 23,661,000 km in 746 days and 10 hours. The web has an eccentricity of 0.272. With an inclination of 165.5 ° the orbit is retrograde, i.e. that is, the moon moves around the planet against the direction of rotation of Jupiter.

Due to its web characteristics, Eukelade is assigned to the Carme group , named after the Jupiter moon Carme .

Physical data

Eukelade has a diameter of about 4 km. Its density is estimated to be 2.6 g / cm³, assuming a predominant structure of silicate rock. Its apparent brightness is 22.6 m .
