FFA Cup 2015

The FFA Cup 2016 is the third edition of the FFA Cup , the national Australian men's soccer cup competition. A total of 704 soccer teams take part in the competition. 32 teams reached the first main round, including the ten clubs of the A-League 2015/16 , the champions of the National Premier Leagues 2015 and 21 lower-class clubs that prevail in the regional qualifying rounds. Defending champions Melbourne Victory were eliminated in the semifinals against city rivals Melbourne City FC .

Qualifying rounds

Several hundred teams competed in the various regional preliminary rounds to qualify for one of 21 main round places to be awarded. The ten teams of the A-League ( Adelaide United , Brisbane Roar , Central Coast Mariners , Melbourne City FC , Melbourne Victory , Newcastle United Jets , Perth Glory , Sydney FC , Wellington Phoenix , Western Sydney Wanderers ) were set for the main round. In addition, the champion of the National Premier Leagues 2015 ( Blacktown City FC ) received a starting place. All nine regional associations of the Australian Football Association held qualifying rounds. The distribution of qualification places per regional association remained unchanged compared to the previous year, which led to the following distribution:
