The FIFA Club World Cup 2007 ( Engl. : FIFA Club World Cup 2007 ) was the fourth edition of this global soccer competition for club teams and was held for the third time in a row in Japan from 7 to 16 December. With AC Milan , a European team won the title for the first time.
mode
Due to the change of the Australian Football Association from the OFC to the AFC and the resulting lower playing strength of the OFC clubs, an idea from the previous year was taken up in March 2007 and a rule change was decided. From then on, the winner of the OFC Champions League had to play a qualifying game against the champions of the host association, who usually have an additional place on the starting grid. However, since only one representative per country should take part, the following applies: If a club of the host association is the winner of the respective continental competition, the best-placed club of the respective continental competition that does not belong to the host country will instead enter the preliminary round. This regulation was applied for the first time in 2007, as a Japanese team, the Urawa Red Diamonds, won the AFC CL and their finalist, the Iranian representative Sepahan FC , played the elimination game.
The tournament was therefore held with seven participants from this year on. In addition to the winners of the six continental championship competitions at club level from Asia , Africa , the CONCACAF zone , South America , Europe and Oceania, now also the finalist of the AFC Champions League. As usual, the game was played in the knockout system . In ten days, despite elimination, only seven games took place as there was no game for fifth place this year. The teams from Europe and South America were set for the semi-finals as before and only played two games each. The other four teams determined the other two participants for the semi-finals in two quarter-finals.
