Folhadela is a municipality ( freguesia ) in the Portuguese district ( concelho ) of Vila Real . 2261 inhabitants live in it (as of June 30, 2011).
The Vila Real airport and part of the campus of the Universidade de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro are located in the municipality.
history
The oldest place was called Vila Nova de Panóias when Portugal's first King D.Afonso Henriques gave the church of Santiago de Vila Nova to the knight Fernando Garcia. In the royal surveys of 1220 and 1258 , the place appears as Santo Jacobo de Vila Nova. In 1290 it was first performed under the place name Santiago de Vila Nova. Today the place as Vila Nova is a place of the municipality Folhadela.
Culture and sights
The monuments of the community include some sacred buildings , including the Romanesque parish church Igreja Matriz de Folhadela (after its patron saint also Igreja de São Tiago , English Church of St. James) from the 13th / 14th centuries. Century.
The weather station built in 1956 is also a listed building.
