Franklin County is a county in the state of Washington in the United States . It has 49,347 inhabitants. The county seat is in Pasco .

history
Franklin County was formed on November 28, 1883 from parts of Whitman County . It was named after Benjamin Franklin , a publisher, statesman, writer, scientist, inventor, natural philosopher and freemason. He is also considered to be one of the founding fathers of the United States.

According to the 2000 census , the county had 49,347 people. There were 1,484 households and 11,604 families. The population density was 15 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 61.91% White, 2.49% African American, 0.73% Native American, 1.62% Asian, 0.12% Pacific Islander, and 28.98% other races Groups; 4.14% were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 46.67% of the population.
Of the 14,840 households, 45.00% had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 60.80% were married couples living together, 11.40% were single mothers. 21.80% were not families. 17.80% are single households and 7.30% have someone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.26 and the average family size was 3.67 people.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 34.60% of residents under the age of 18, 10.90% between 18 and 24 years of age, 28.10% between 25 and 44 years of age, 17.90% between 45 and 64 years of age 8.50% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 28 years. For every 100 females there were 109.10 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 108.60 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $ 38,991 , and the median income for a family was $ 41,967. Males had a median income of $ 32,209 versus $ 24,533 for females. The per capita income was $ 15,459. 19.20% of the population and 15.50% of families are below the poverty line. 26.00% of these were under 18 years of age and 7.70% were 65 years of age or older.
