The open-air theater Schloß Neuhaus is an amateur theater open-air stage in Schloß Neuhaus , a district of the city of Paderborn in North Rhine-Westphalia. She is a member of the Association of German Open Air Theaters .

The stage and the auditorium, completed in 2001.

The open-air stage is supported by the association of the same name, Freilichtbühne Schloß Neuhaus e. V. , which was founded on May 15, 1963. The open-air theater has existed since 1957 and was founded on the occasion of the 700th anniversary of Neuhaus Castle. Until the founding of the association, it consisted of the theater group and the factory choir of the Benteler Werke and the Kolping crowd. Hugo Wienand staged " Jedermann " by Hugo von Hofmannsthal for the palace festival . The rehearsals took place in the evening during the week in the mirror hall of the palace. The premiere was unfortunately canceled due to constant rain, but the next evening there was a successful performance in the palace courtyard. In addition to this cult piece, the fairy tale game “Magic in the Fairy Tale Forest” was premiered by the group of the company choir.

In 1959, the filling and leveling of a spectator stand and the cladding of two playing areas were completed. Five years later, just in time for the start of the season, the first stage was finally completed.

In 1993, the expansion of the entrance area (kiosk and toilets), the roof with fundus and prop room and the sound engineering room with improved technical equipment was continued. The sound barrier of over 10,000 spectators was exceeded this year for the first time with the pieces "Tischlein deck dich", "Oh how beautiful is Panama" and "Sterntaler". Only three years later the more than 50 actors on the open-air stage achieved a new audience record with "Jungle Book" by R. Kipling with more than 13,000 visitors.

The fully occupied auditorium during the play Pippi Longstocking (2019).

Fixed seating in the form of benches has existed in the auditorium since 2001. There is space for up to 600 spectators in the auditorium.

The Paderborn actor, author and filmmaker Erwin Grosche gained his first acting and directing experience on the open-air theater of Schloss Neuhaus. He wrote and staged the play KubuKiKa with his brother Heiko Grosche around 1979 and staged Snow White in 1985 . The director Hermine Huntgeburth played in KubuKiKa and in 1981 the cabaret artist and musician Rüdiger Hoffmann played the Seppel in Robber Hotzenplotz .

In addition to the classic theater performances such as the family play and the evening play, other (musical) events also take place on the open-air stage. For example, the young Paderborn cabaret artist Julian Klenner performed in 2017 and 2018 , who had previously played as an actor in numerous plays. In the following 2019 season he made his directorial debut with the family play Pippi Longstocking . The music events to date include two concerts by the Paderborn Elvis impersonator Carsten Keber, an ABBA and a Blues Brothers show and regular benefit concerts for the German José Carreras Leukemia Foundation .
