Glandorf is now a district of Sankt Veit an der Glan . The place was first mentioned on October 9, 979 in a document. This confirms a donation made by Emperor Otto II to the Count Palatine Aribo , to whom he had given three royal hats in the hamlets of Lebenach (Lebmach), Glandorf and Podebach (Podeblach).

Glandorf was and still is at the intersection of important roads and traffic routes. Already in Roman times, a street led from Virunum , the capital of the Noricum , to the north and probably forked to the east and west in what is now the city of St.Veit / Glan.

Districts and population

The place is divided into Altglandorf, Ober- and Unterglandorf. There are around 500 to 600 households in the district.

Altglandorf has more or less a closed structure and has grown as a "village within a village" in the south of the village in the broad Zollfeld. The area around the “Stone Bridge” in Altglandorf is the original settlement area of the place. The booming St. Veiter industrial park with its dynamic branch mix and newly created 1,300 jobs is directly connected to Altglandorf. An international forwarding company has set up a location in the district and a modern transport company has its headquarters in the village.

In 2001, at the last census, Altglandorf had 105 inhabitants. Of the 42 villages in the municipality of Sankt Veit an der Glan , only four have more inhabitants than Altglandorf.

The wastewater from the town of Sankt Veit an der Glan is biologically treated together with that from the communities of Glanegg , Liebenfels , Frauenstein (Carinthia) and St. Georgen am Längsee in the wastewater treatment plant at the eastern end of Altglandorf. The treated wastewater is discharged into the Glan (Carinthia) .

Unterglandorf continues to be a development zone for urban planners: In recent years, a number of community buildings, countless single-family houses and an extensive senior citizens' residence, the AIS care home, have been built in Unterglandorf. The Glandorf Kindergarten is also located in Unterglandorf. The St. Veiter concrete industry located there, the therapy center, the indoor and outdoor pools and a large hardware store provide jobs.

Because of the frequent flooding of the Glan, many Glandorf residents moved their homes a little further north to higher ground around 1100. Here in Oberglandorf are the two Fundermax plants 1 and 2, the administration center of the FunderMax company , local suppliers, medium-sized businesses, former staff houses, today some community buildings and a number of single-family houses and two taverns. The Wood Competence Center Sankt Veit an der Glan, a research center for wood and wood-based materials, has been built in Fundermax Plant II. The research focus is on "surface" and "logistics", the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna acts as an academic partner in St. Veit. The “Fundernovum”, currently Glandorf's cultural and social center, is directly adjacent to the Wood Competence Center and is architecturally just as part of Fundermax Werk II.

Economic development

  • Carriages, tradespeople, traders, settlers and farmers lived and worked in Glandorf for 500 years when, around 1450, two families by marriage, the Gleismüller and Kaltenhauser, came from Nuremberg and settled as business people in St. Veit an der Glan. Gleismüller built a paper mill in Glandorf, the first in Austria.
  • On the threshold of the 18th century, a certain Herterich built a lead factory in Glandorf, taking advantage of the good road conditions. He soon felt compelled to sell the company for 40,000 guilders to Baron Johann Mathias Koller. In 1832 the factory changed hands again when Countess Katharina Egger, née Koller, took over the business and made it a success again.
  • One of the largest wood processing companies in Austria, Funder Industrie GmbH , today FunderMax and the Glandorf concrete industry ensure economic prosperity.
  • A modern senior citizens' residence, the AIS nursing home Glandorf, was built in Unterglandorf.
  • The leisure center of the city of St. Veit an der Glan with indoor pool, outdoor pool and sauna area was built in the 1970s by the city of St. Veit an der Glan and Mr. Adolf Funder in Glandorf and was extensively modernized by the city in the 1990s.
  • A therapy center with an attached large sauna has been added to the indoor swimming pool of the municipality of St.Veit / Glan.

Soccer

Football was played on two and later on three courts: in Oberglandorf above Kollerhofstrasse, in Unterglandorf near Gratzer Bachl. Since the two old squares were built or sold, the people of Glandorf have played on a new square below the former marshalling yard.

Glandorf made up a considerable proportion of youth players from the then successful St. Veit football clubs SV St. Veit and SCA St. Veit: The Oberglandorfer Grazei brothers and the old Englandorfer Robert Telsnig played in the combat teams of the St. Veit clubs. Günther Sternad from Oberglandorf was the captain of the first junior team at the Carinthian Performance Center, which was created in 1978 and is still alive today in the Academy of SK Austria Kärnten .

Culture and society

In the 70s of the last century, the Funderhaus was the center of the cultural and social life of Glandorf and ultimately of the entire town of Sankt Veit an der Glan, where the countless events were held. The Funder House of Encounter also served as the seat of the various sections of the cultural sports community Funder (KSG Funder). Today the various events in Glandorf take place in the Fundernovum .

fire Department

The company fire the company FunderMax was established in 1955. Among the Carinthian firefighters, the company fire brigade of the St. Veit company Funder has a special place. Around 40 blue skirts are currently responsible for plants 1 and 2 in St. Veit and plant 3, which is four kilometers away in St. Donat. The area of responsibility of the company fire brigade has expanded significantly over time. In the past, the team was mainly involved in active fire-fighting, but today the main tasks are preventive fire protection. The main reason for this is the protection concept introduced with an American insurance company. This means maximum technical fire protection in the form of automatic extinguishing systems - all Funder plants were equipped with automatic sprinkler systems. In the area of organizational fire protection, a strict hot work control system ensures safety. Constant training courses ensure that the Florianis have the necessary technical knowledge. All Funder plants have achieved so-called “Highly Protect Risk” (HPR) status. Specialists from the American insurance company inspect the plant several times a year to ensure that this high standard is maintained. The control tasks include the alarm tests, fire extinguisher and hydrant controls or the checking of fire doors. In order to cope with all these tasks, the members of the fire brigade are trained, in addition to the “classic” fire brigade tasks, in these protective systems specific to the plant.
