Hans Hugo Marcellus von Prittwitz and Gaffron (born November 16, 1840 in Nassadel , † February 23, 1916 in Brieg ) was a Prussian officer , most recently a lieutenant general .

Life

origin

Hans came from the Silesian noble family von Prittwitz and Gaffron . He was the son of Moritz Wilhelm von Prittwitz and Gaffron, manor owner and lieutenant retired. D. (born January 17, 1796 in Konstadt ; † December 9, 1866 in Nassadel), and his 2nd wife Agnes, née Bieneck (born February 12, 1815 in Baumgarten near Pitschen ; † November 24, 1893 in Breslau ).

Military career

Prittwitz and Gaffron joined the 11th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army in Breslau as avantageurs on April 1, 1860 . He was assigned to the 11th Combined Infantry Regiment, which was formed by the AKO on May 5, 1860 from the three Landwehr trunk battalions from Glatz , Brieg and Münsterberg . This became the 4th Lower Silesian Infantry Regiment No. 51 on July 4th . Here he was made ensign on September 19 and promoted to second lieutenant on July 27, 1861 . On April 1, 1865 he became a battalion adjutant. During the German War he became regimental adjutant on July 1st and took part in the battles near Skalitz , Schweinschädel and Königgrätz , the cannonade of Kukus and the battle near Nachod . He was promoted to prime lieutenant on September 18, 1867. In the Franco-Prussian War , he became adjutant of the Breslau 21st Infantry Brigade on November 28, 1870 and took part with her in the siege of Paris .

When he was promoted to captain , he was released from his command on April 11, 1873 and appointed chief of a company in the 4th Lower Silesian Infantry Regiment No. 51. For the 6th Westphalian Infantry Regiment No. 55 and as an adjutant at the General Command of the IX. Army Corps in Altona was transferred to Prittwitz and Gaffron on February 14, 1880. Left in his command, he was promoted to major on September 18, 1881 and transferred to the 8th Pomeranian Infantry Regiment No. 61 in Thorn . In the 7th Brandenburg Infantry Regiment No. 60 in Weißenburg , the staff officer was appointed battalion commander on August 20, 1884. When he was promoted to lieutenant colonel , he was transferred to the 3rd Lower Silesian Infantry Regiment No. 50 in Rawitsch , while at the same time being appointed as a regular staff officer .

Insinuation à la suite of the regiment Prittwitz and Gaffron was on 4 November 1890, the leadership of the Free Hanseatic cities of Hamburg and Lübeck in garrison lying second Hanseatic Infantry Regiment charged. When he was promoted to colonel on November 18, he became his commander . With his promotion to major general on May 14, 1894, he was appointed commander of the 14th Infantry Brigade in Halberstadt .

When Prittwitz and Gaffron were granted the character of lieutenant general on July 20, 1897, their departure was approved. He spent his twilight years in Brzeg and died during the First World War .

family

Prittwitz and Gaffron married Marie, née von Zawadzky (born February 20, 1840 in Oberglogau ; † June 5, 1909 in Brieg) in Schweidnitz on April 26, 1870 . The son Max Moritz Hans (1876–1956) emerged from the marriage.
