Buildings

The Catholic Church of St. Josef was consecrated in 1970 and is a branch church of the Merten Rectorate . The foundation stone was laid on May 3, 1967.

Naming

The place takes its name from the Harmonie mine , which was bestowed on copper ores and pyrites . It was in operation in a first phase from 1800 to 1812. A second phase followed from 1866 to 1909. The course ran under the victory to Bourauel . The part to the north of the Sieg was operated as a “dance” mine field, the southern part as a “harmony” mine field. In 1862 the two fields were merged. There was always a problem with pit water that had to be pumped out with the help of horses and water art . For the latter, brooks were diverted and dammed: the Schiffnerbach, the Eitorfer Bach, the Erlenbach and north of the Sieg the Schmelzbach . With their water power, pumps were operated by means of water wheels installed on the surface. In 1909 the water ingress was so severe that operations were stopped. In 1967 the already bricked-up shaft of the Harmonie pit was closed by a garage. The walled up tunnel entrance in Bourauel is near the Honrath restaurant.

memory

Today the street names "Harmoniestraße" and "Am Bergwerk" still remind of this time, also kindergarten and elementary school Harmonie . The latter was in the 2006 competition “It goes differently” in the selection of the best 18 German schools. The Gasthaus Zur Harmonie was built in 1854 by Johann Rosenbaum from a half-timbered house that was demolished in Weyerhof . The surveyor had recognized the Siegtalstrasse, which was also planned, as an opportunity and, in addition to the restaurant, also had a barrier as a source of income, on which a small duty had to be paid. The workers' settlement in the direction of Hennef was built by a mining company that included the Alte Harmonie mine .

Personalities

The member of the Bundestag Alexander Soranto Neu was born in 1969 in Harmonie.
