The Interstate 405 (abbreviated I-405 ) is an interstate highway in the United States . It forms a bypass route from Interstate 5 around downtown Portland .

history

Construction on Interstate 405 began in 1964. Most of the route opened on February 25, 1969, and the Fremont Bridge section opened on November 11, 1973. The total cost of the entire route was $ 121 million.

course

After turning off Interstate 5, I-405 initially runs east. After passing Portland State University , it heads north. Shortly thereafter, the interstate meets US Highway 26 at Exit 1C.

From Exit 3, the road shares the route with US Highway 30 . After the cross, Interstate 405 crosses the Willamette River on the Fremont Bridge before ending at Interstate 5.
