Jérôme Moïso (born June 15, 1978 in Paris ) is a former French basketball player . Moïso played at the beginning of his professional career for five different clubs in the highest endowed professional league NBA , in which he never got beyond the status of a supplementary player and did not play a leading role in his teams. After continuing his career in European professional leagues from 2006, he played in Italy , Spain and Russia, among others . With Real Madrid he won a Spanish championship in 2007 and the ULEB Cup with Joventut Badalona in 2007/08 . After Moïso later played in the Chinese Basketball Association and Ukraine , he attempted a comeback in 2013 in the Puerto Rican Baloncesto Superior Nacional . However, it was not used in a championship game and Moïso ended his career for good.

Career

Moïso won a silver medal at the U18 European Championships in 1996 with the French junior team when, among other things, the German junior team around Dirk Nowitzki was defeated and only twice had to admit defeat to the title winner Croatia. Then Moiso was allowed a year later with the Men's National Team at the European Championship finals in 1997 to participate, where he came to two brief appearances. However, France remained without a win in the second round and finished tenth after only one preliminary round victory. Moïso then left the French youth academy INSEP in his hometown and went to the United States , where he spent a year at the "Prep School" Milford Academy in Milford (Connecticut) to study and prepare for a basketball career in the NCAA . In 1998 he was accepted to study at the University of California, Los Angeles and played for the traditional university team Bruins in the Pacific-10 Conference (Pac-10) of the NCAA. With the Bruins Moïso could not win any titles in the Pac-10 in his two seasons in the NCAA. The Bruins' furthest advance in the national NCAA finals during this period was their entry into the second round of the Sweet Sixteen 2000, after they had surprisingly clearly dominated the University of Maryland's favorite Terrapins , and then also very clearly against the Iowa State Cyclones to be eliminated. Moïso then finished his studies and signed up for an NCAA player relatively early after two years for the " Entry Draft " of the NBA, where he was selected in the first round in eleventh position by the Boston Celtics.

In his first season as a " rookie " in the NBA 2000/01 , however, Moïso was only used for a few minutes in about every fourth game and came to almost six minutes per game in 24 missions. The Celtics then gave Moïso after only one season in a player swap and he came to the Charlotte Hornets via the Philadelphia 76ers . In the NBA 2001/02 Moïso came with the Hornets in Charlotte but only a few missions. After the franchise moved to New Orleans , Moïso became an integral part of the rotation of the players used and came to over ten minutes of playing time in 51 season appearances in the 2002/03 NBA . Nevertheless, there was subsequently no contract extension and Moïso signed a contract as a " free agent " with competitor Toronto Raptors. At the 2003 European Championship finals , Moïso was back with the French national team, which, however, missed a medal in the "small final" for third place against the Italian selection that had been presented in the preliminary round. Subsequently, Moïso refrained from further appearances in the national team in order to concentrate on his club career. In the only Canadian NBA team sank in the NBA 2003/04 but almost all of Moïso's individual statistics and he only made 35 appearances. After a further 20 appearances in the NBA 2004/05 , the Raptors broke the contract again after "Franchise Player" Vince Carter was sent to the New Jersey Nets after a player swap and Moïso was no longer a place in the Raptors' squad. Moïso came to the New Jersey Nets in consecutive short-term contracts for eight more assignments. After the Nets no longer extended the short-term contracts at the end of January, Moïso came on four more appearances for the Cleveland Cavaliers in February 2005 before his season was finally over and with it, as it turned out, also his career in the most important professional basketball league. In 145 appearances in total in the NBA, Moïso was only in the starting line-up three times .

After Moïso got no new contract in the NBA, he was obliged at the beginning of the 2006/07 season by the Italian first division team Virtus Lottomatica from the capital Rome . There he had only a few missions and his contract was dissolved shortly after the start of the season after another commitment, so that Moïso joined the league rivals in the Lega Basket Serie A , runner-up Fortitudo Climamio from Bologna , at the end of December . However, the team could not follow up on the successes of the previous season, was eliminated in the preliminary round of the ULEB Euroleague 2006/07 and also missed the national championship play-offs significantly. At the end of the season Moïso moved to Spain, where he reinforced Real Madrid for the play-offs, which were able to take back the championship title in Spain. For the following season 2007/08 he went within the ACB league to league competitor DKV Joventut from Badalona , which after winning the title in the second highest European club competition ULEB Cup 2007/08 and in the Spanish cup competition Copa del Rey as the main round runner-up in the national semi-final series in the Catalan duel against FC Barcelona were eliminated. For the 2008/09 season Moiso signed a contract with the Russian runner-up BK Chimki, which was dissolved after a short time, so that Moiso returned to Joventut de Badalona in December 2008. After you had to give up Rudy Fernández , who moved to the NBA, among other things , the team could not build on the successes of the previous season. Eliminated early in the Euroleague , they failed in the first play-off round at Moïso's former club Real Madrid. In the 2009/10 season he was then under contract with the Eurocup semi-finalists Bizkaia Bilbao. In the Eurocup 2009/10 they moved into the Final Four tournament again , but lost to the German representative ALBA Berlin in the semifinals . In the national championship you missed the ninth place to get into the play-offs again.

For the 2010/11 season Moïso went to China where he played for the Dragons from Jiangsu in the Chinese Basketball Association . With this team he reached the semi-final series of the CBA, in which one was subject to the main round first Xinjiang Flying Tigers. In the 2011/12 season Moïso had ten missions for BK Dnipro from Dnipropetrovsk before he left the team in March 2012. A year later he tried his hand at a comeback in the Baloncesto Superior Nacional in Puerto Rico , but after persistent knee problems he remained without commitment for the Piratas from Quebradillas .
