John Alvbåge (born August 10, 1982 in Gothenburg ) is a Swedish football player . The goalkeeper , who made his debut for the Swedish national team in 2006 , was a substitute for the national team at the World Cup in Germany that same year .

Career

Alvbåge started playing football at the Gothenburg suburb Torslanda IK . There he went through the youth teams with which he took part in international tournaments. As a 15-year-old he moved up to the squad of the men's team, for which he made his debut in 1999 in the 0-0 draw against IF Heimer in the third-class Division 2 Västra Götaland . At the same time, he had played in both the Swedish national youth teams and the Gothenburg junior city selection , in which he played alongside players like Tobias Hysén or Kim Källström .

Before the first division season in 2000 , Alvbåge moved to Västra Frölunda IF , at the time one of five Gothenburg clubs in the Allsvenskan , the top Swedish league. During the season he came to twelve missions in which he could not prevent the club's relegation from the first class. In the second division season in 2001 he missed the direct return as a regular goalkeeper with the team as ninth in the table, but was named player of the year at the club. In the following season he dominated the Superettan for a long time with the club . After some games were lost towards the end of the season, the team only occupied the relegation place. There Alvbåge met with his club on IFK Göteborg , with a 1-1 draw and a 2-0 defeat, he missed promotion.

Alvbåge then left the club and returned to the Allsvenskan. The coach Stefan Lundin , newly signed by Örebro SK , guided him to the club from Närke , where he signed a three-year contract. With the club he occupied midfield positions in the Allsvenskan, before the club's license was withdrawn after the 2004 season due to economic problems.

Then Alvbåge changed club again and joined IFK Göteborg . Here he was left with the role of substitute behind Bengt Andersson , so that he moved on after half a year. The next stop was the Danish club Viborg FF , where he replaced Jesper Christiansen who had migrated to FC Copenhagen . As a regular player he recommended himself for the Swedish national team, in which he made his debut on January 23, 2006 in a friendly against the Jordanian national team. In the summer he was considered alongside Rami Shaaban as a substitute for Andreas Isaksson as a substitute goalkeeper at the World Cup tournament.

In the course of the Allsvenskan season in 2008 Alvbåge returned to Sweden and hired again at Örebro SK, where he received his year of birth "82" as the number on his back . There he ousted Peter Westman as regular goalkeeper and managed to return to the national team in 2009 as part of the winter international games of the Swedish selection, where he made his fourth international appearance on the occasion of the 1-0 victory over the Mexican national team. Also in the following season he was a regular goalkeeper and helped the club to sixth place in the table alongside Patrik Anttonen , Kim Olsen and Samuel Wowoah . Under coach Sixten Boström , the team continued to fly high in the following season and placed third behind champions Malmö FF and Helsingborgs IF . In the 2011 season he only missed a season game due to a dismissal, as a regular player he contributed to staying in the table as twelfth.

After neither Marcus Sandberg nor young goalkeeper Erik Dahlin had convinced as a goalkeeper at his former club IFK Göteborg , the club brought Alvbåge back from the 2012 season. In the following years he was the club's regular goalkeeper and twice reached the final of the Swedish National Cup with the team . In the final of the 2012/13 edition against Djurgårdens IF , the decision was made on penalties , where he was defeated only by Andreas Johansson , so that after three penalty kicks on the Gothenburg side, the title was won. In the meantime, in the 2014 season, he was temporarily represented and ousted by Sandberg due to injury, but was again a regular in the following year. In the 2014/15 cup competition he reached the final with the club again, this time with a 2-1 win against Örebro SK after goals from Lasse Vibe and Søren Rieks when Ayanda Nkili conceded the triumph in regular time.

At the beginning of 2017, Alvbåge switched to Minnesota United in the United States on loan for six months , as coach Jörgen Lennartsson trusted goalkeeping rivals Erik Dahlin and Pontus Dahlberg . There he could not convince, so that the loan deal, which expired in July, did not lead to another transfer. A short time later the club loaned him again, this time to the Norwegian club Stabæk Fotball until the end of the year . After returning to Sweden at the end of the season, he left IFK Göteborg permanently in January, this time moving to Cyprus and joining the multiple champions Omonia Nicosia with a one-year contract with an option to extend until the summer of 2019 . In his debut against Anorthosis Famagusta at the beginning of February, he injured himself after almost half an hour and was replaced by young talent Andreas Christodoulou , after which he had to undergo an operation and was out for several months. During the summer break, the club loaned him to league rivals Nea Salamis Famagusta . Here, however, only the role of substitute remained behind Robert Veselovsky , in January 2019 he played his only league game for the club in the First Division .

In March 2019, Alvbåge returned to Sweden, where he joined first division club IK Sirius and signed a contract valid until the end of the 2019 season.
