Kadelburg

The Kadelburg , including Castel Castle , Kadilburck or Kadoltesburg called, is a Outbound Wallburg on the eastern outskirts of Kadelburg , in the municipality of Kuessaberg in Waldshut ( Baden-Wuerttemberg ).

Today the hill is called "Eckau" (formerly also called "Egghau" or in 1880: "eghau"). According to Hans Matt-Willmatt , 1957, the place is also called "Bürglenhöhe".

Only remains of the ramparts and moats remain from the early historical ramparts .

Castle (fortification)

There are no finds on the plateau, nor are there any traces of the former overbuilding. In 1963 the local researcher Egon Gersbach was able to record the remains of the fortifications.

topography

"To the north of the village, an almost rectangular high plateau, which consists of layers of the Great Dane and a gravel cap, extends from the southern roofing of the Klettgauranden far to the southwest into the Rhine Valley."

Attachment marks

At the southwest corner of the plateau, a triangular section with steep heaps all around was eroded out, which measures almost 150 meters in length and was sealed off with a wall towards the narrow end. “In 1949 the wall extended straight 35 m into the area to the south [...], in 1963 this wall section was removed down to a short stub 10 m in length and the trench in front was filled with the loose material that had accumulated. “A path that climbs steeply up the plateau embankment from the road to the plateau, undoubtedly marks the former access to the fortification.”

Environment and current development

At the southeast corner of the mountain tongue stands “today the Protestant parish church, to which the village cemetery adjoins to the west. [...] The [formerly] fortified inner area includes the corridors 'Kirchwiesen' and 'Spitzäcker', [...] outside the area directly adjoins the 'Im grau Stein', which preserves the memory of a 'gray stone', which may have been the symbol of a high court that was close to the early medieval castle. "

During an inspection in November 2017, the following findings could be made: The 'steep ascent to the plateau slope' will today be the stairs leading directly to the entrance portal of the mountain church. The large-scale cemetery now takes up almost the entire plateau. Not far from the war memorial there is a bench next to a wall-like elevation - probably the “short stump” of the barrier wall that Gersbach observed in 1963.

Gersbach also writes that "there (could) be direct relationships between the castle and the Alemannic burial ground at your feet."

Alemannic burial ground

Among the finds in Alemannic graves are a large silver, gold-plated clasp and two silver earrings, which probably belonged to a rich Alemannic clan. A number of clay beads and pieces of a fine, thin bronze bracelet were also found. A particularly interesting find is a red plate of raw terra sigillata .
