Life

origin

He was the son of Baron Carl Gustav Otto von Funck (born August 7, 1805 in Königsberg ; † October 31, 1876 in Breslau) and his wife Marie Lampe (born September 13, 1818 in Commercy ; † October 15, 1901 in Breslau) . His father was a military director at the VI. Army Corps and Real Secret War Council .

Military career

Funck joined on 1 April 1858 as three-year volunteer in the 11th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian army in Wroclaw one was there on November 11 to Portepee - Ensign appointed and on October 12, 1859 second lieutenant promoted. From the three main battalions of the 11th Landwehr Regiment in Göritz , Breslau and Lissa , the 1st Combined Grenadier Regiment was formed by AKO on May 5, 1860. Funck was transferred to this on July 1, 1860. On July 4, 1860 AKO changed the names of most of the regiments . That of the 11th regiment changed to the 2nd Silesian Grenadier Regiment No. 11 and that of the Combined Regiment to the 3rd Guards Grenadier Regiment and on October 18, 1861 to the 3rd Guards Grenadier Regiment "Queen Elsabeth" . In the German-Danish War he took part in the enclosure and bombardment of Fredericia , as well as the battles at Stoustrup-Heisekro and Horsens . He was posted to the War Academy from October 1, 1865 to May 8, 1866. In the German War he took part in the battle at Alt-Rognitz and the Battle of Königgrätz and was promoted to Prime Lieutenant on October 30, 1866 . In the period from November 11, 1866 to July 22, 1867 and from October 1, 1867 to July 26, 1868, Funck was again at the War Academy.

In the Franco-Prussian War he fought from July 28th to August 18th, on that day he was wounded by a shot through the right heel in the battle of St. Privat la Montagne , and from October 1st to 19th, 1870, he took part in the enclosure of Paris and a battle at Le Bourget, the regiment's 3rd mobile company. From October 20, 1870 to January 9, 1871, he was assigned as a company commander to the non-commissioned officer school in Potsdam . There he was promoted to captain on December 22, 1870 . With the leadership whose Fusilier - battalion he was commissioned for 14 days from 11 July 1875th

Transferred to the 7th Thuringian Infantry Regiment No. 96 in Altenburg on March 22nd, Funck was promoted to the superfluous major on August 30th, 1881 . He was appointed commander of the 1st battalion of the 2nd Hanseatic Infantry Regiment No. 76 in Hamburg on January 3, 1884, promoted to lieutenant colonel on August 2, 1888 and eight days later as a regular staff officer in the Duke's Braunschweig Infantry Regiment No. 92 transferred to Braunschweig .

Funck was entrusted with the leadership of the infantry regiment "Graf Barfuß" (4th Westphalian) No. 17 stationed in Saargemünd and Forbach on August 12, 1890 and was appointed regimental commander on September 10, 1890 with promotion to colonel . From October 11 to 19, 1892, he was on an information course for regimental commanders at the infantry shooting school in Spandau . To be able to command this regiment was a special honor for Funck. The proximity to the border meant that in an emergency he would have been one of the first to be “at the enemy”. While such a garrison was an honor for high-ranking officers, the lower-ranking officers there were hardly used anywhere else in the empire. Fritz Oswald Bilse , who was stationed in Forbach, described this in his 1903 novel From a small garrison. A military image of the time .

With his promotion to major general Funck was appointed commander of the 15th Infantry Brigade in Halle on May 14, 1894 . He was appointed commandant of Spandau on October 18, 1896. In this position he was given the character of Lieutenant General for the Emperor's birthday on January 27, 1898 . On March 22, 1902, the Funck was put up for disposal with the statutory pension in approval of his resignation request.
