Kazakowo ( Russian Казаково , German  Gerschwillauken , Lithuanian Geršvilaukiai ) is a place in the Russian Oblast of Kaliningrad . It belongs to the local government unit Stadtkreis Gusev in Gusevsky District .

Geographical location

Kazakowo is located nine kilometers southwest of the city of Gussew (Gumbinnen) in a loop of the Angerapp (Russian: Angrapa) and can be reached via a land connection from the side road from Gussew via Iwaschkino (Kollatiken / Langenweiler) to Mayakovskoye (Nemmersdorf) .

history

In 1583 the then still called Schlieszellen and still small town was mentioned for the first time. Before 1945 it was essentially just one large courtyard. In 1874 Gerschwillauken was incorporated into the newly established district of Nemmersdorf . It existed until 1945 and belonged to the Gumbinnen district in the Gumbinnen administrative district of the Prussian province of East Prussia .

45 residents were registered in Gerschwillauken in 1910. 25 years later - on August 1, 1935 - the former rural community gave up its independence and was incorporated into the neighboring community of Jungort (until January 22, 1935: Kiaulkehmen, Russian: Dunajewka, no longer exists today).

In 1945 Gerschwillauken was transferred to the Soviet Union like all other places in northern East Prussia . In 1950 the place received the Russian name "Kazakowo" and was at the same time assigned to the village soviet Mayakovsky selski Sowet in Gusew Rajon . From 2008 to 2013 Kazakovo belonged to the rural municipality of Mayakovskoye selskoje posselenije and since then to the urban district of Gusew.

church

The majority of the population of Gerschwillauken before 1945 was of the Protestant denomination. The village was in the parish of the church Nemmersdorf (the place is called today in Russian: Majakowskoje) and thus belonged to the church district Gumbinnen in the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union . Today Kazakowo is in the catchment area of the newly established Evangelical Lutheran parish of the Salzburg Church in Gussew (Gumbinnen) . It is part of the Kaliningrad (Königsberg) provost of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of European Russia .
