The Kawasaki Z 1000 , which has been built since 2002, is a sporty naked bike from the Japanese manufacturer Kawasaki Heavy Industries . It was launched by Kawasaki as the successor to the Z-series built from 1972 to 1984 , but has few similarities with the old models. Since 2004 it has been part of a model series with its little sister, the Z 750 . So far, three model versions of the Z 1000 have been produced. For the current 2010 model version, for the first time, the 953 cm 3 engine of the now discontinued ZX-9R was no longer installed , but an independent unit with a displacement of 1043 cm 3 .

Model history

The Z 1000 was presented to the public in street fighter style towards the end of 2002. A striking feature are the two exhaust pipes on the right and left-hand side, which are stylistically continued into the 2010 model year. The number of units planned for Germany for the 2003 model year was already sold out in August 2003. The motorcycles were renewed for the model year 2007 and 2010 respectively. In addition, the model update was carried out annually, which was limited to minor changes, such as the color scheme. Only with the larger model upgrade versions were many details revised or completely redesigned. With the current model from 2014, Kawasaki has tightened the design to present the streetfighter style more aggressively.

2003-2007

The Z 1000 (internal ZRT00A) was built with an uncontrolled catalytic converter and remained from 2003 to 2007 except for a few details as part of the facelift such as: B. paintwork, immobilizer, gear wheels, types of springs in the chassis almost unchanged.

2007-2009

The successor model (internal ZRT00B) was built with a regulated catalytic converter and, apart from the 4-pipe exhaust typical of the model, has a fundamentally revised design. For the first time, this model was also available with ABS (internal ZRT00C).

2010-2013

On October 5th, 2009 the Z 1000 (internal ZRT00D or with ABS ZRT00E) of the 2010 model year was officially presented. It awaits with a completely revised design, an aluminum frame and a newly developed engine with 1043 cm³. It also got a new digital speedometer unit.

Since 2014

On November 5, 2013, the Z 1000 (internal ZZRT00F or with ABS ZZRT00G) of model year 2014 was presented with the Japanese philosophy Sugomi . It has been completely revised again. The chassis, brakes, engine and lights have been completely redesigned or reconsidered. The headlight was adapted to the present day and is operated with LED.
