The Lawil S.pA was an Italian automobile manufacturer that existed and 1967-1988 headquartered in the city of Pavia had. The company emerged from the Italian company Lambretta and goes back to the idea of Henri Willame (director) and the designer Carlo Lavezzari , who wanted to deal with the manufacture of passenger cars in addition to motorized tricycles and scooters. Correspondingly, the name formation: LA vezzari + WIL lame.

Models

Lawil

The Lawil was presented to the world public in April 1967 in Varzi, Lombardy . It was a 1.78  m long small car with a compact design. The basis was the Lambretta tricycle manufactured by Innocenti . The engine was a 125 cm³ version and a 175 cm³ version. In 1969 the vehicle was extended to a total length of 2.05 m, as a trunk was added from now on. Since a driving test was necessary for the more powerful engine, this was taken out of the program again in 1970. The original version of the Lawil was taken out of the model range as early as 1971 and continued with the S3.

Lawil Farmer / Lawil S3

The Lawil S3 is a compact Italian buggy that was produced and sold between 1968 and 1980. The vehicle had its world premiere in 1968 at the Paris Motor Show . Technically, it was based on the Fiat Nuova 500 .

The S3 was available in two engine versions. The S3 functioned as an urban entry-level model with a single-cylinder engine with a cubic capacity of 123 cm³. The better motorized version of the S3 got a two-stroke engine with 246 cm³ displacement with an output of 10 kW. Because of its compact body shape , the vehicle became known as Varzina (in German : wart ) and was accordingly unpopular on the home market. The model achieved greater success in other European countries.

The advantages of the Lawil S3 compared to other buggies of its time were, in addition to the clear instrument panel, the leather and felt lining. The spare wheel at the rear and the convertible top on the Lawil S3 Spider were also standard. Some units of the Lawil S3 were also sold in Germany. In Switzerland the vehicle was called Lawil Farmer .

Lawil S4 Berlina / Willam Lambretta

A modernized version of the S3 came on the market in 1976 under the name Lawil S4 Berlina . Only the individual elements such as the radiator grille, headlights and indicators have been stylistically revised. The engines were taken over from the predecessor. In Italy the S4 Berlina replaced the S3 and was in the model range until 1988.

Lawil Fourgonette

The Fourgonette was based on the S3 and was designed as a panel van, but was only offered in France and was there with great success. The cargo space was 105 × 115 × 92 cm. The payload was 400 kg. While the civilian versions disappeared from the Lawil brand's product range as early as 1980, commercial vehicles were manufactured and exported until 1988.

Diavolino

Between 1984 and 1986 the Diavolino was manufactured in Switzerland as the successor to the Lawil S3.
