The men's high jump at the European Athletics Championships in 1966 was held on August 31 and September 1, 1966 in Budapest's Népstadion .
In this competition, the French high jumpers won a double victory. European champion was Jacques Madubost . He won ahead of Robert Sainte-Rose. Bronze went to Valeri Skworzow from the USSR.

The 24 participants took part in a joint qualifying round. The qualification height for the direct entry into the final was 2.06 m. Since only one athlete jumped this mark (highlighted in light blue), the final field was filled with the next best placed athletes (highlighted in light green). So finally thirteen jumpers who had managed at least 2.03 m reached the final.
