The men's hammer throw at the European Athletics Championships in 1969 was held on September 19 and 20, 1969 at the Karaiskakis Stadium in Athens .

In this competition, the Soviet hammer throwers achieved a double victory. Anatolij Bondarchuk became European champion . In doing so, he set a new world record. He won before the Olympic champion from 1964 , Olympic champion from 1968 , previous world record holder and defending champion Ramuald Klim . Bronze went to the GDR athlete Reinhard Theimer .

qualification

September 19, 1969, 10:00 a.m.

Nineteen participants entered the qualifying round. The qualification distance for the direct entry into the final was 66.00 m. Since only seven athletes exceeded this mark (highlighted in light blue), the final field was filled with the next best placed athletes to twelve throwers (highlighted in light green). So finally 62.08 m was enough for the final.
