Likavka (Hungarian also Likava ) is a municipality in the central Slovak Kraj Žilina . It is located on the western edge of the Podtatranská kotlina at the foot of the Chočské vrchy on the right bank of the Váh , opposite the town of Ružomberok .
The first documentary mention took place between the years 1235 and 1270 and was on a trade route from Sohl County to the Kingdom of Poland . The ruins of Likava Castle from the 14th century, destroyed in 1707, and the Church of St. George from 1888 by Blažej Felix Bulla (1852–1919), the architect of the Slovak National Theater, are worth seeing .
