Lily Allen was born to actor and comedian Keith Allen and film producer Alison Owen . Her father separated from the family when she was four years old. Due to frequent moves, she attended thirteen different schools between the ages of six and fifteen. She was also expelled repeatedly. Eventually she went to boarding school, which she left when she was 15. She began training as a florist , which she broke off after a short time. She came into contact with drugs early. By her own admission, she was on cannabis most of the time between the ages of 16 and 19 . Her brother is Alfie Allen , known as Theon Greyjoy from the fantasy series Game of Thrones . She dedicated the song Alfie to him on her debut album Alright, Still .

Musical career

2005–2007: career start with Alright, Still

During a family vacation in Ibiza , Allen met music agent George Lamb, who put her in contact with music producer Future Cut. After the two of them read their self-composed lyrics, they wrote some titles on this basis. She sent her demo tapes to various record labels. Finally she got a contract with Regal Records (Parlophone / EMI) at the end of 2005 .

Although their first single Smile was one of the best-selling in Great Britain in 2006 and the album Alright, Still did not turn out to be a slow seller, Allen missed out on the 2007 BRIT Awards (four nominations in the categories: singer, album, song, newcomer) . She can also be heard as a background singer on Robbie Williams ' album Rudebox , including on Bongo Bong / Je ne t'aime plus , a cover by Manu Chao and Keep On . She could also be heard as a background singer for the Kaiser Chiefs' third album Off with Their Heads, which was released in 2008 . 2008–2010: It's Not Me, It's You

As the first single for Allen's second album It's Not Me, It's You , which was released on February 6, 2009, the song The Fear was released. After it had already been available as a single piece on various download platforms since December 5, 2008, the physical release followed on January 23, 2009. On May 8, 2009, the song Not Fair followed as a single.

In September 2009 Allen criticized publicly unpaid music downloads and set up her own anti-file-sharing blog under the title “It's not alright”, in which she was indignant about file-sharing. A short time later she was convicted of file sharing herself and was then ridiculed for her double standards. In addition, it was criticized that at the beginning of her career she promoted her own advancement through free music downloads and used the Internet as a marketing tool and now wanted to ban this as a successful musician. A few days later, she stopped her blog on the grounds that "the abuse was getting too much" for her. She said on Twitter that she was not going to renew her expiring record deal and had done the music making business for her and that she wanted to concentrate on her acting work. At the end of 2009 she declared, “Facebook, blogging, that had become an addiction”, she would now completely refrain from it and no longer use modern means of communication. At the end of 2011, she began to communicate regularly via Twitter again.

On October 30, 2009, the single 22 was also released in Germany . In 2010 her collaboration with British rapper Professor Green was published. The song Just Be Good to Green reached number 5 on the UK charts.

On June 20, 2012, Allen announced via Twitter that she was working on new music in the studio with Greg Kurstin , which was confirmed by her press officer in August 2012.

The song True Love , which is on P! Nk 's sixth studio album The Truth About Love , is a duet between the two singers and was co-written by everyone. The single was released in mid-July, Allen used her married name Lily Rose Cooper.

2012-2014: Sheezus

Allen (2013)

On November 13, 2013, the music video for the new single Hard out Here was released , which Allen released again under her usual stage name Lily Allen. For the video, she hired six dancers to perform explicit dance interludes in bikini . Both the song and the video are based on fellow musicians like Robin Thicke and Miley Cyrus , who, in their opinion, “show too much skin” to be successful in the music business. The single itself was released in the UK a week after the video, where it peaked at number 9. In Germany, the song became the theme music for the eighth season of the show Ich bin ein Star - Get me out of here! used. The single then reached number 2 in the German charts and is thus her first top 10 hit. In addition, at the end of November 2013 she released a cover version of the song Somewhere Only We Know by the band Keane for the Christmas advertising of the company John Lewis , which reached number 1 on the British single charts. As a result, two of their songs simultaneously reached the top 10 of the UK single charts.

On January 14, 2014, the premiere of the second single Air Balloon of the third studio album Sheezus followed on the British radio station BBC One . On February 7th, Allen presented the official video for the song on the video platform YouTube . Its release took place on March 2, 2014. On February 21, 2014, she announced that her third studio album is entitled Sheezus , based on Kanye West's Yeezus . The track list of the album, which was released on May 5, 2014, was announced on March 10, 2014. In addition, the video of the album's third release Our Time was released on YouTube, which was released on April 27, 2014. URL Badman and As Long As I Got You were released as further singles .

Since 2015: No Shame

Even before Sheezus was released , Allen announced that she was working on a fourth studio album. Until May 2015, she spent most of her time in Los Angeles , where she was in the studio with Sean Paul to record new songs. On August 1st, 2015 she presented the track You're Onto Me on the video platform Periscope .

Based on a tweet from Allen in spring 2016, the fourth album was believed to be titled The Fourth Wall . She later decided to rename her upcoming album No Shame .

The single Trigger Bang , which Allen recorded with British rapper Giggs , is their first single in over three years. The album No Shame was released on June 8, 2018.
