List of countries by death rate
The following list of countries according to death rate sorts countries according to the number of deaths per 1000 inhabitants within a year. Further terms for death rate are mortality or death rate. The size of the death rate depends heavily on the average age of a population and on average life expectancy . Even with a young average age , the death rate can be very high if a country is in a state of war, is affected by an epidemic or pandemic, or if living conditions are generally poor. So have z. B. Afghanistan or Lesotho despite a young population have a high death rate.

The following list sorts countries according to the number of annual deaths. The data for the death rate per 1000 people in 2016 is from the CIA World Factbook and the data for the average death rate between 2010 and 2015 is from the United Nations . CIA and United Nations data may vary slightly due to different time periods and sources. Countries are ranked by death rate in 2016.
